R-PEACE is Growing!

R-PEACE is Growing!

We're excited announce a new project with our partners EOS Eco-Energy and Town of Sackville. Thanks to a grant from the Green Investment Fund (Mount Allison Student's Union) and from the Faculty of Arts @ MtA, we're contributing plants and people power to assist with the revitalization of the green space on top of Sackville's Town Hall. Our very own Hannah Wickham (honours RELG) is working as an intern and research assistant with the Department of Religious Studies and R-PEACE on this project.

At present, we're a small part of EOS's grander designs, which include waste water management and planning for climate change and sustainable community development. For our part in the Fall we'll be connecting students from Marshview Middle School in our Engage! program with this space and using it to learn about climate change and food security. And, we'll be exploring the space in our departments at MtA to explore outdoor learning and climate change education.

This is just the beginning. R-PEACE is planning a green roof project of its own on campus (The Green Lab), again in collaboration with EOS. This will begin to take shape this Fall and see us planting and researching come Spring and Summer 2022. Our partners and projects will include, we hope, faculty and students from the Biology, Geography & Environment and Religious Studies Departments, on matters as diverse as food security, sustainable communities, mindfulness and nature and outdoor education and pedagogy.

Watch these spaces: things are looking up!
