New Community Engaged Learning Program

In March 2020, Mount Allison University approved a new program in Community Engaged Learning (CENL). This exciting addition to the university will include a Certificate, a Minor, and a Post-baccalaureate Certificate, and will build on the university’s emphasis on experiential learning and existing community partnerships between Mount Allison faculty, students, and community organizations.

Courses in the CENL program will focus on citizenship, personal formation, ethics, community histories and identities, and praxis through involvement in community engagement activities. Courses will consider themes such as compassion, community narratives, and theories of community engagement, in addition to active participation in community initiatives.

Through their involvement in community engagement activities, students will enhance their personal growth, develop tangible skills, meet new people and create opportunities to explore local, regional and global perspectives.

The CENL program will combine theory and practice by providing students with the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world situations. The CENL program will benefit students, faculty, and community partners by offering new learning experiences, completing projects that add to the life of the community, and strengthening the relationships between Mount Allison and the community.
